The labourers were living in temporary huts near the site and the huts collapsed into the pit due to heavy rainfall.

Chairing an emergency meeting, Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has asked that all senior officers on leave should be asked to report back to duty immediately and no leave should be sanctioned for the next two months, according to his office.

According to his office, Saxena also took note of the lack of preparedness and an emergency response system in the national capital. He asked the officials to undertake the drain de-silting work on an emergency basis over the next week, reports PTI.

Delhi-NCR rain LIVE Updates: The ceiling of a library in Delhi University's north campus started leaking after heavy rains lashed the national capital early Friday, forcing students to move out of the reading room.

In a video that surfaced online, water was seen to be dripping from the ceiling of Faculty of Arts library and a portion of the reading room was filled with water.

Rajesh Singh, the librarian, said a survey of leakage was conducted immediately after it was reported and repair work is being carried out currently.

Delhi-NCR rain LIVE Updates: A 39-year-old man was electrocuted while on his way to work Friday morning, after coming in contact with electricity conducted through a waterlogged road during heavy rains in the national capital.

The Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (DDL), which supplies electricity in the area, said the electrocution was caused by a faulty internal wiring issue at a private shop, which caused current to flow through the shop's tin shed and metal poles.

The responsibility for this lies with the owner or occupant of the shop, the company said in a statement.

The victim, identified as Rajesh Kumar, is survived by his wife and two children, the police said.

Delhi-NCR rain LIVE Updates: Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu on Friday said that an investigation has been started and that experts will be brought in to investigate the Delhi Airport canopy collapse incident at Terminal 1.

In the early morning of Friday, heavy rain led to the collapse of a portion of the canopy at Delhi Airport's Terminal 1, killing one person and injuring several others.

"Investigation has begun. We will also bring experts from the department to investigate this. Action will be taken based on the report that will come," Naidu told ANI.

The residents of Delhi, who endured one of the worst heatwaves in history earlier this month, now face severe water-logging with record-breaking rainfall in just 24 hours, surpassing the city's average for the entire month of June.

The torrential downpour caused a fatal airport roof collapse, disrupted flights, closed a metro station, blocked underpasses, and led to massive traffic jams, turning the city's relief from the heat into chaos.

The Indian capital of 20 million people received 228.1 mm rainfall in 24 hours at its main Safdarjung weather station until 8:30 a.m. (0300 GMT) on Friday, a 266% departure from normal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Three labourers are feared trapped after an under-construction wall collapsed in southwest Delhi's Vasant Vihar area, officials said on Friday.

According to the officials of the Delhi Fire Service (DFS), a call regarding a wall collapse was received at 5.30 am and five fire tenders were pressed into service.

Three construction workers are feared to be trapped in the mud slush but the exact numbers are yet to be ascertained, a senior police officer said.

Rescue teams of NDRF, DDMA, civics agencies, fire and police are on the spot and efforts are underway to rescue them, he added.

Divers and firemen are conducting searches as the trapped workers are suspected to have descended into a deep pit, the officer said.

Merely two hours of rain waterlogged multiple parts of Noida on Friday morning. This forced commuters and vehicles to navigate through knee-deep water in certain areas.

The waterlogging was reported in Botanical Garden, Dalit Prerna Sthal, Outside The Great India Place, Bird Feeding Point, Sectors 76, 50, 18, 95, and 96. Due to the incessant rain, the divider grille close to Sector 16 metro station also collapsed on the main

road, which led to bottlenecks and traffic congestion.

Several people posted videos on social media platforms, which show that people were forced to navigate through knee-deep water. However, traffic was smooth in the city.

Brajesh Sharma, a resident of Sector 78, said, "On Friday around 8 am, when I left home for office in Delhi, I encountered waterlogging in multiple parts on the way. Dalit Prerna Sthal was completely waterlogged, and a divider grille of around 200 metres near

Sector 16 metro station was found lying on the main road."

Monsoon has covered entire Delhi on Friday according to India Meteorological Department.

It has also further advanced into some more parts of West Rajasthan, remaining parts of East Rajasthan, some parts of Haryana, some more parts of West Uttar Pradesh; remaining parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar and some more parts of East Uttar Pradesh on Friday.

The Northern Limit of Monsoon passes through Jaisalmer, Churu, Bhiwani, Delhi, Aligarh, Kanpur, Ghazipur, Gonda, Kheri, Moradabad, Dehradun, Una, Pathankot, Jammu.

Conditions are likely to become favourable for further advance of southwest Monsoon into some more parts of West Rajasthan; remaining parts of Haryana, entire Chandigarh and remaining parts of Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu during next 2-3 days, IMD has said.

The Delhi government will hold an emergency meeting on Friday afternoon to take stock of the situation in the city after heavy rains left the national capital waterlogged and brought traffic to a standstill in many areas.

All Cabinet ministers and top officials will attend the meeting that will be held at the Secretariat at 2 pm, officials said.

Delhi: AAP MLA Somnath Bharti says, "Experts are saying that in 1936, there was 235 mm of rainfall in the month of June, today there was the second highest rainfall of 228 mm in the month of June after 1936. The infrastructure is not designed to handle such heavy rain..."

On a portion of the canopy collapsed at Delhi airport's Terminal-1, RJD MP Misa Bharti says, "I have seen it on the television, rain has just begun and the canopy of T-1 has collapsed. The PM should look into these things. I think Adani Ji should come before the media and speak about it as it was built by him."

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will get the structure of Delhi’s terminal 1 (T1) examined, two civil aviation ministry officials said.

This comes as Friday morning rains that are believed to have caused the roof of Delhi airport’s terminal 1 (T1) to collapse, led to the death of one and injured at least six.

Civil Aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu along with aviation secretary Vumlunmang Vualnam and a few other ministry officials visited the spot and ordered the airport operator to inspect the terminal building.

Naidu, while speaking to the media, said that the terminal has been temporarily shut for operations and is aimed to be operational by tomorrow.
